Dreams Born of the Sea

Image
Dreams Born of the Sea In the endless seas of time Through the endless currents We flow, As we change the seasons change As time passes Societies rise and fall. As time passes Yesterday’s dreams Become today’s reality On distant rocky shores. Somewhere in time, you can see, broken remnants of dreams, glistening on the rocks As the tide pulses and ebbs, new dreams are born, in the tide pools. As the endless current flows and the tide pulses and ebbs In the endless seas of time. A. J. Phillips I wrote and submitted this poem to poetry.com back in 2005.  It won an Editor's Choice award from poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry. Bushido

Bushido In a flash of light I lost myself. It all just slipped away, fading into memories of the past Is this an illusion, or is the clanging thunder reality? I remember as a child,  the head waters of the sacred river. As rivers seemed to flow from me I am Fading away! The Echoes of training and discipline filled my thoughts. As I grew older I learned of duty and honor! Gaining two constant companions, cold and razor edged. In a flash and a thud, my first duty was carried out! Years later it was arranged, I would marry the youngest daughter of a wealthy Lord. My son was born in the 12 th year of Tensho. Those eyes looking up at me. I am a Samurai bound by Honor! In a flash of light I lost myself. In a flash of light! A. J. J. Phillips and this actually happened to me in my mid-twenties. I had just graduated college and was looking for my first place of my own, as well as looking for my first real job.  Earlier that same year I had met a woman who at the time I thought was the one, but that is only a minor detail.  I had a friend who was going to be out of town for the summer and he let me sublease his room in a house for that summer.  So for the time being I had a place to be while I hunted a job.
